POP-Java installation tutorial

Requierments

In order to install POP-Java, you must install the followings software on your computer:

  • The latest JDK or JRE (1.6 or later)
  • The latest installation of POP-C++. For more information about POP-C++ installation: POP-C++ Quick Start

Installation

The installation of POP-Java is very simple. Before starting the installation, we just need to know where we want to install POP-Java. If the destination directory require special rights, use sudo -E to start the intallation script.

Compile POP-Java

The first step is to compile POP-Java.

ant

For this command to work, ant needs to be installed.

Installation in a simple directory

The next step is the actual install of POP-Java. Run this command:

./install

You will be asked to provide folder you want to install POP-Java to.

[POP-Java installation]: Please enter the location of your desired POP-Java installation (default: /usr/local/popj ):

/home/username/popj

Confirm your choice.

[POP-Java installation]: Installing POP-Java under /home/username/popj ? (y/n)

y

After the installation is done, the installer provides you with the lines you have to copy into the .bashrc file in you home directory.

[POP-Java installation]: POP-Java has been installed under /home/username/popj. Please copy the following lines into your .bashrc or equivalent

POPJAVA_LOCATION=/home/username/popj

export POPJAVA_LOCATION

POPJAVA_JAVA=/usr/bin/java

export POPJAVA_JAVA

PATH=$PATH:$POPJAVA_LOCATION/bin

[POP-Java installation]: Installation done.

Installation in the default directory

As we certainly do not have the right to write in the default installation directory (/usr/local/popj), we will use the sudo command with the -E option to keep the environment variables.

sudo -E ./install

When asked about the install directory, leave the value blank.

[POP-Java installation]: Please enter the location of your desired POP-Java installation (default: /usr/local/popj ):

Confirm your choice.

[POP-Java installation]: Installing POP-Java under /usr/local/popj ? (y/n)

y

After the installation is done, the installer provides you with the lines you have to copy into the .bashrc file in you home directory.
